Breakfast in Bed: Dalgona Matcha

Ceremonial matcha and whisk

Not ready to head to your nearest Starbucks yet for a latte? This delicious (and so beautiful) home-made Dalgona Matcha recipe courtesy of @dineandfash might be just the thing!

An increasingly popular alternative to regular tea or coffee, matcha is a powdered form of green tea made from the whole leaves of young tea plants. Grown in the shade, matcha has more chlorophyll content which equates to more nutrients, and is high in a catechin, believed to have cancer-fighting and other disease prevention effects on the body. In addition to it being an anti-oxidant powerhouse, it’s been credited with elevating mood, increasing concentration and boosting metabolism.

dalgona matcha latteINGREDIENTS:

  1/4 cup white sugar
  1/4 cup water
   2 egg whites
   1 tbsp. matcha powder
   Milk of your choice

    METHOD:

In a small saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar.  Remove syrup from heat.
In the meantime, in a mixing bowl, fold in egg whites. Whip egg whites with a hand mixer on the highest setting until white and fluffy.
While whipping on the highest setting, slowly add syrup to your egg whites (adding the syrup warm ensures the eggs become safe to eat).
Add matcha powder and continue to whip until completely dissolved.  Once stiff peaks form, your whipped matcha is ready.
In a glass, add a few ice cubes and your milk of choice. Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, add whipped matcha on top.  Enjoy!
