Mochila Market Social Enterprise
We’re proud to announce our partnership with Mochila Market and the launch of our first limited-edition envello mochila collection.
Mochila Market is a social enterprise located in Chorrera, Colombia, about an hour’s drive from our founder’s hometown of Barranquilla.
Dedicated to improving the lives of its local residents and the small communities in which they live, Mochila Market sells a variety of handcrafted goods to the global community on behalf of its artisans. As a social enterprise, it pays fair market wages that are above local market wages, and further reinvests its profits back into local development initiatives, such as health education and financial literacy.
What’s a mochila? In Spanish, mochila means knapsack or backpack. With their beautiful colours and patterns, they are more like functional works of art, making them the perfect alternative to a regular, everyday purse or tote. Each mochila takes on average between 10-16 days to complete and each is 100% handmade.
Stylish and thoughtful, mochila bags are crafted by local entrepreneurs and artisans primarily from the northern Atlantic region of Colombia. The hardworking artists create these high-quality, versatile bags to financially support their families, while preserving their cultural values through an artform that goes back hundreds of years.
These five amazing women pictured below are the magic behind our first collection, each bringing their own individual passion and flair to our custom designed purses and totes.
